Q: Do you wash my vehicle after performing repairs or servicing?
A: As a standard practice, we do not wash our clients' vehicles. The reason? Many of our first-time clients have asked us not to, following bad experiences with other repair facilities. While these facilities mean well with their "courtesy" car washes, they often result in scratched paint, soap residue and other unsightly blemishes - not what you want to see on your cherished Mercedes-Benz! However, we would be happy to arrange to have your vehicle professionally washed and vacuumed while in our care. The typical cost of this professional cleaning is $40.00. If you would like to take advantage of this service, please let us know in advance of your appointment date.

Q: Is Star Automotive "Factory Authorized" or able to perform recall repairs?
A: No independent repair facility can be "factory authorized" to perform repairs billed to the manufacturer, including Star Automotive. Our goal is to give Mercedes-Benz owners a positive alternative to the dealership - a place where you can have your vehicle serviced and repaired with confidence. To fulfill that goal, all of our repairs are made exclusively with factory-approved parts to ensure that your vehicle's warranty is never compromised.

Q: How does Star Automotive determine the labor time charged for a repair?
A: We use an independent, nationally-published labor time guide.For specialized repairs not listed in this guide, we use the factory Mercedes-Benz time guide for reference.

Q: What is your warranty?
A: Star Automotive provides a two year nationwide warranty on all new and rebuilt parts sold and installed at our facility. This warranty is twice the length of most competitors. For details click Here.

Q: Do you rebuild parts in-house?
A: We can rebuild transmissions, engines and differential assemblies when it is the most cost-effective option for our clients. But in most cases, our clients benefit more when we install rebuilt parts instead. The warranty on rebuilt parts is often much longer than our in-house warranty, and can be honored at other repair facilities in the event of a failure outside of San Luis Obispo County. At Star Automotive, we have the capability and commitment to make the repair that best meets our clients' needs.

Q: Where will your free shuttle service take me?
A: Anywhere you want to go! (Within reason, of course.) Our free shuttle service is available to any location in the greater San Luis Obispo city area, Edna Valley, Arroyo Grande (excluding the Mesa), Five Cities, Avila Beach, Cal Poly and Cuesta College. At this time, we are unable to shuttle clients to Atascadero, Los Osos, Morro Bay and points north of these communities, as well as Nipomo, Santa Maria, and communities further south. Many of our clients prefer to be taken to Downtown San Luis Obispo for a relaxing time of shopping and dining while their vehicles are being serviced.

Q: Can I drop off my vehicle outside of your business hours?
A: Absolutely! Our drop-off forms are located at the side entrance of our facility. Please lock your vehicle, complete and sign the form, place your key inside the form envelope, and drop the envelope through the mail slot in the door. We will contact you during the next business day to confirm that we've received your key and vehicle, and to discuss the service to be performed.
